Email QR Code: Open a Pre-Filled Message in One Scan
An email QR code opens the scanner’s mail app with a recipient, subject line and message body already written. People only need to press Send. It is a quick way to collect feedback, support requests or sign-ups from printed material.
The mailto format
The code stores a standard mailto link, for example mailto:[email protected]?subject=Order%20question&body=Order%20number%3A. Spaces and special characters are percent-encoded so every mail client reads them the same way. The generator builds and encodes this string for you; you just fill in the three fields.
Practical ideas
- Product packaging with a support address and the model number in the subject.
- Event feedback with a subject such as Feedback: Spring Workshop.
- Rental properties where guests report a maintenance issue.
- Lost-and-found tags on equipment so a finder can contact the owner.
Tips for better results
Keep the body short; a long body makes the code denser and harder to scan. A prompt such as Describe the problem here: works better than a full template. Use a shared mailbox rather than a personal address, because a printed code cannot be changed later and you may need to hand the inbox over.
Remember that the address is visible to anyone who scans the code, so expect some unsolicited mail if the code is posted publicly.
How to make it
- Open Create and choose Email.
- Enter the recipient address, then an optional subject and message body.
- Add a frame with a hint such as Email us to tell people what will happen.
- Run the scan test, then download or print the code.
Frequently asked questions
Does the email send automatically when scanned?
No. Scanning only opens a draft in the mail app. The person can review and edit it, and nothing is sent until they press Send.
Can I add several recipients?
The form is built for one primary address. A shared team mailbox is the cleanest way to reach several people.
What happens if the phone has no mail app?
The phone may ask which app to use or show the address as text. Most phones have at least one mail client, but printing the address beside the code helps everyone.
